Committees
The heart of the organization
BOMA committee members exude expertise and passion for the industry.
They channel it into the resources, publications, professional development opportunities and direction for the organization.
There are 9 standing committees and at least three ad hoc subcommittees which are project based. If there is a product, service or publication provided by BOMA, there is likely a committee behind it!

Government Affairs
The Government Affairs Committee is BOMA’s voice at City Hall and the Legislature, ensuring the interests of the industry are heard where decisions are made. The committee closely monitors municipal and provincial policy developments and works directly with government officials to shape bylaws and legislation that reflect industry realities. The Committee collaboratively develops clear, informed industry positions on a range of relevant topics, such as the Non-Residential Property Tax, Downtown Vibrancy and Safety, Safety and Fire Codes, to name a few.
Environmental, Occupational Health & Safety Committee (EH&S)
The EH&S Committee helps BOMA members stay ahead of emerging environmental, health, and safety issues that impact building ownership, management, and operations. The committee develops practical and engaging education programs, while promoting best practices that elevate safety and sustainability across the industry. By maintaining strong dialogue with both municipal and provincial regulators, the committee also ensures members are informed, prepared, and well-represented on key environmental and OHS matters.
Golf Committee
The Golf Committee delivers BOMA’s flagship networking event - the Bee-Clean BOMA Golf Class, the premier commercial real estate golf tournaments in Canada. The committee curates a first-class experience that showcases the value of BOMA membership while giving industry professionals a fun and memorable way to build meaningful connections. Through this signature tournament, the committee strengthens both community impact and industry relationships.
Awards Committee
The Awards Committee celebrates excellence across Calgary’s commercial real estate sector, recognizing outstanding buildings, teams, and volunteers who elevate the industry. The committee continually strengthens and modernizes BOMA’s awards program, ensuring strong alignment with BOMA National Awards and the international TOBY Awards. It oversees the full awards lifecycle—from application and judging to guiding the Awards Gala Sub-Committee in delivering a memorable celebration of achievement. Grounded in the principle of WOJAC (“we only judge against criteria”), the committee ensures a fair, transparent, and inspiring awards process.
Public Safety Committee
The Public Safety Committee focuses on strengthening security and life safety across Calgary’s commercial buildings by fostering collaboration between property teams, emergency services, and key external partners. The committee develops practical education, consistent procedures, and shared best practices that help building owners and managers respond confidently to safety incidents. Through initiatives like the BOMA Safety Survey, it gathers valuable data to guide improvements and reduce risks for tenants, visitors, contractors, and staff. By promoting awareness, preparedness, and clear communication, the committee helps ensure safer, more resilient buildings throughout the city.
Next Gen Committee
The Next Gen Committee strengthens BOMA’s connection to emerging leaders by creating meaningful programs, networking events, and professional development tailored to young professionals. The committee works closely with post-secondary institutions to showcase commercial real estate as an exciting and rewarding career path for students and recent graduates. It also collaborates with BOMA Calgary to ensure membership structures and fees support the needs of early-career professionals. Through this work, the committee helps attract, engage, and retain the next generation of talent for our industry.
Industry Technology Committee
The Industry Technology Committee helps members stay ahead of rapidly evolving technologies that shape the operation and performance of commercial buildings. The committee delivers relevant education, expert-led sessions, and curated resources that highlight emerging trends and real-world applications. By promoting best practices and showcasing subject matter expertise, it empowers building professionals to make informed, future-ready technology decisions.
Membership Committee
The Membership Committee drives BOMA’s growth by strengthening member retention, welcoming new industry segments, and fostering inclusive engagement across the association. The committee develops targeted recruitment materials, strategic communication plans, and outreach initiatives that highlight the value of BOMA membership. Through this work, the committee helps build a vibrant, diverse, and well-connected BOMA community.
Events Committee
The Events Committee plays a key role in supporting BOMA’s annual events program by planning, coordinating, and volunteering at events that do not have a dedicated committee. This includes gatherings such as the BOMA Holiday Luncheon, quarterly luncheons, the BOMAzing Race, socials, and other signature events throughout the year. By ensuring these events are executed seamlessly, the committee enhances member engagement, fosters networking opportunities, and strengthens the overall value of BOMA membership.
Education Committee
The Education Committee leads BOMA’s efforts to advance professional growth across the industry by identifying and delivering high-value training and accreditation opportunities. The committee keeps members informed about emerging career pathways and oversees key resources such as the BOMA Careers Guide. It manages the Building Operator Development program—including the 5th Class course—and directs the delivery of formal accreditation offerings, including RECA licensing education. By coordinating local BOMI programming and exploring new designation opportunities, the committee helps elevate skills, standards, and career readiness throughout the commercial real estate sector.
