The 2014 TransCanada BOMA Excellence Awards were held Thursday, May 8th, honoring BOMA Calgary’s Top Performers in commercial real estate. The event was held at the Westin, with over 320 people attending.
Hosted by MCs Jayme Doll and Amber Schinkel of Global News, the evening began with a televised welcome from Mayor Nenshi, acknowledging Calgary’s “best of the best” in the industry.
Russel Hantho, of TransCanada, expressed his appreciation in being a part of the evening, as the Awards Title Sponsor. He spoke about their commitment to “raising the bar” for electricity needs in competitive prices and solutions in the commercial real estate industry. He then thanked everyone for their submissions to the BOMA Excellence Awards with good wishes for the evening.
Four prestigious awards were presented to outstanding industry members for their contributions: Triovest Realty Advisors for environmental sustainability, Don Fairgrieve-Park, Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP for the Chairman’s Award, as well as Glen Kitteringham and Ray McPhee, critical volunteers during the 2013 Flood and now recipients of the Malcolm Bryce Award.
Property Management Team of the Year focused on excellence in tenant services. It was presented to Palliser Square Complex, which includes the Calgary Tower, managed by Aspen Property Management. With pride, enthusiasm and a clear vision, the team excelled in purpose and core values to guide its employees. Their development of an effective tenant service plan with tenant testimonials spoke volumes to this award.
The Pinnacle Innovation award went to Servpro Cleaning for developing “The Plus Program – Sanitation Specialist”. The goal was to proactively decreased staff sick days, through contamination in critical touch points and cross contamination between cleaning tools. GWL Realty Advisors reported Servpro to contribution exceptional standards for their staff’s health and wellness.
The Pinnacle Award for Customer Service went to SerVantage Services Group. Their commitment portrayed clear goals, objectives and incentives to continuously serve their clients in the highest level of customer service.
ServiceMaster Disaster Restoration took the lead for the Pinnacle Above & Beyond Award for their considerable hard labor, to clean up the Calgary Stampede after the 2013 flood. They had 13 days time frame, with their 65 staff, they co-ordinated hiring 500 additional employees and equipment to “let the show go on”.
Centrium Place, managed by Triovest Realty Advisors received the Certificate of Excellence, a three year certification, and The Outstanding Building of the Year (TOBY) Award in the Office Building 100,000–249,999 SQ FT category. The award recognized the introduction of the Green Teams program with the tracking of their waste diversion, along with a newly hired safety and environmental specialist. Centrium Place team excelled to provide an outstanding standard of maintenance to their customers.
The Toby Award for the new Industrial category for Building or Park went to Rangewinds Business Park, managed by Bentall Kennedy (Canada) LP. Their corporate sustainability efforts are demonstrated in records of irrigation savings, solar panel signage and community involvement. Tenant feedback is also encouraged for a high level of engagement.
Park Place Shopping Centre in Lethbridge, operated by Primaris Reit portrayed an outstanding “Reuse philosophy”. With their rooftop vegetable garden, onsite compost, reclaimed wood for furniture, as well as LED lighting, to name a few. Their many outstanding attributes earned the coveted 2013 Earth Award.

Once again, the TransCanada BOMA Excellence awards evening continued to raise the bar for outstanding service and performance in the Commercial Real Estate industry. It was an evening rewarded from “Excellence”!
