BOMA BESt

BOMA BESt (Building Environmental Standards) is a national program launched in 2005 by BOMA Canada to address an industry need for realistic standards for energy and environmental performance of existing buildings based on accurate, independently verified information.

Today, BOMA BESt has evolved from simply identifying key best practices to providing common standards; an array of educational and on-line assessment tools; independent data audits; and a four-level performance certification program. The certification is available for office buildings, shopping centres, open air retail and light industrial properties.

BOMA BESt is the leading certification program for commercial buildings. Read more.

As part of the verification process for BOMA BESt in Calgary, each application must be supported by a binder containing the relevant information for each section. For more information on the binder requirements please contact BOMA.

The Best Practices within the program breaks down into six areas, energy, water, waste reduction, emissions and effluents, indoor environment and environmental management system. To see the full guidelines or questionnaire for the best practices, click here.

The BOMA BESt program is built to allow in house personnel to complete the surveys; however many building owners and managers have service providers who provide reports on energy, water, and internal systems. If you are working with one of these providers, ask them to identify reports which may be included as part of your submission. This will help you to benchmark and set targets for re-certification.
