Description:
Purpose: This course is designed to give individuals the knowledge and materials required to challenge the 5th class Power Engineering ABSA exam.
Length: The course will run over a fourteen-week period of approximately 120 hours. Classes will be taught on Tuesdays and Thursdays evenings for three hours and every other Saturday for six hours. Structure: The instructor will go over course materials in a classroom environment as well as some tours of building facilities. The students will be required to complete home assignments within allotted time frames. The pass mark for this course is 65%.
5th Class includes: Act and Codes, Applied Science, Welding and Plumbing, Pumps, Piping and Valves, Boiler Details, Boiler Fittings, Fuels and Combustion, Boiler Controls, Boiler operation, maintenance and water treatment, Heating Systems and Human Comfort, Refrigeration and Air conditioning; Systems and Auxiliaries, Refrigeration and Air conditioning Controls, Air Compression, Electricity,
Pre-requisite for this course is Building Operator 3 - Introduction to Building Operations, or approved equivalent. The course content covers all subjects in the provinical syllabus, such as boilers, operations and maintenance, filters, humidity controls, refrigeration, air compressors, meters, etc.
